As a reference to this twitter post, Japan has a precedent of showing un-aired episodes in “viewings (上映会),” tickets to which are often available only by lottery.  It may be unlikely to see these episodes in a viewable form outside of Japan until the BD releases.  It’s also possible they’ll just throw it on nico.

    Well it’s certainly disappointing… :( I hope that what their twitter feed said is correct, and we’ll see it come back in mid-April, before the scheduled DVD release. If the series comes back, you folks’ll still be on for translation I hope?

    Aww, this was by far my favorite show this season. However, if it means the quality will be better on the final episodes, I’m willing to accept this, as this is one series where I’d like the ending to be as amazing as possible.

    Is there a difference between canceled and suspended? The broadcast is over. It’s gone. It’s not happening. When they were going to show Madoka they showed something else. Probably a cooking show. You can call it canceled, suspended, indefinitely interrupted, stopped, whatever you like. Take your pick. And in your case, I suggest you take that pick and jam it into your frontal lobe, sparing the rest of us a lot of trouble.

    That said, the top post probably should have provided a translation of the linked twitter, so the comment below it made more sense.

    can you provide the source for it being discontinued? It doesn’t make sense in light of Shaft’s efforts to deliver the final episodes in April. The above links do not seem to indicate that the shows have been taken off the air.

    Why don’t we just take this as a learning opportunity and learn some japanese in the process? Is it, according to the first link provided, canceled?

    The show was taken off the air. The broadcasts were stopped. If you haven’t noticed, no one has released episode 11. Please note that only the broadcasts have been canceled indefinitely. We said nothing about the production of the show, or even the BD line-up. I’ll copy an exact quote from what has been up there all along: “The broadcasts of the rest of Madoka Magica has been canceled indefinitely.” The broadcasts.

    The twitter post is only further reason to translate it as we did.

    See 16. If people would read the entire post, we wouldn’t have this issue. It’s impossible to see the title alone, as the bolded translated text accompanies the post on every page it appears–done purposely, in fact. We even have a short paragraph explaining how the episodes will probably be released. You’re trying make it sound like it’s somehow our fault people can’t read 3 full sentences bolded for emphasis.

    To make matters worse (as in stop trying to argue about this because you’re going to lose and you’re not just wasting my time but anyone who try to read this for more information), the twitter post makes it obvious that there is absolutely no schedule set in stone, and mid-April is a complete maybe. It even specifically says it WON’T be a normal broadcast, which is specifically why the edited part of the post has a wait-and-see attitude.

    If that wasn’t already bad enough, the phrase “canceled indefinitely” is used frequently, especially in this context.

    “Canceled indefinitely” for a flight schedule makes sense. There will be no Tuesday 22 March flight, there will NEVER be a Tuesday 22 March flight, but there may be a Wednesday flight. Since the flights are all identical, it doesn’t make sense to say “Tuesday’s flight is postponed to Wednesday, Wednesday’s flight is postponed to Thursday, and so on.” Tuesday is canceled.

    “Canceled indefinitely” makes less sense for a serial production. If Ep 11 has any chance of being broadcast at an unknown date later, it’s “postponed indefinitely.”

    That said, the big question everyone asks here is: will YESY get a copy of Ep 11 and Ep 12 before we all have to wait for Blu-Ray releases? I for one don’t use Blu-Ray for anything, and I know it’ll probably be a year or two before an English subbed version is available at retail.

    Yet that’s pretty much exactly what the headline is implying. 今後の放送休止のご連絡 –> Broadcasts have been cancelled indefinitely. 休止 is regularly used to refer to something being out of commission, unavailable, out of service. While in America we might hear “postponed indefinitely” more often, it’s just a lovely euphemism saying “It’s not gonna happen, folks. Go home.”

    I still hope we get PMMM in some form next month. It looks most likely that it’ll be through a niconico feed.

    “Canceled indefinitely”, while getting the literal meaning across, isn’t necessarily an accurate translation. “Suspension” is much more accurate in conveying the actual meaning intended.

    This doesn’t change the fact that Madoka Magica is off the air, though. So enough arguing over that. It’s gone and done with and further bickering will only make fools of yourselves.

    I would say just wait. They never subbed on day 1. Ussually their release period was around sunday-tuesday which should mean you really should be expecting it tomorrow at earliest, especially since it’s two episodes, not one.

    @enri: again, yesy is a quality fansub group. You’re statement makes it sound like you don’t care what release you get anyways in the end. If you want earthquake warnings taking up half of your screen while watching or huge artifacts, you’re free to grab gg’s, chihiro’s or nutbladder’s releases instead.

    Yesy is a quality fansub group liked for its accuracy of subs, not its outstanding video quality. Indeed, caring about the video quality of an anime that will soon get its blurays out is laughable. You haven’t even provided a TS version of the last few episodes you did sub. For understandable reasons, mind, but it still stands that yesy is admired for its subbing, not its outstanding access to perfect raws.

    Also, as the one above me said, there should be no earthquake warnings on either of the last episodes. And if there are, release your typical “Medium Quality” on those, then follow up with a “High Quality” version when a better raw gets out.

    People want to watch the last two episodes with your subs. Stop holding out on your followers for such an inconsequential reason.

    Well if there are raws without any annoying warnings, then it’s probably due to low rate quality in general? Though I’ll have to wonder if better one’s will even show up.
    I already waited one week. Might as well as few more days. Hopefully not that long anymore.

    I like yesy’s work and I get the reason behind the lateness of their release, but I think this delay has gone from acceptable to tolerable to slightly ridiculous. That being said, I’ll still wait for them because.. well, what the heck, I’ve waited this much already.

    Ok, I admit I’m just ventilating a bit of my frustration here. I just want to watch the ending for this series and I want to do it with the subtitles I like (and already have watched all the way through). I just don’t want the same as with Eclipse’s KnTS2.

I watch yesy because they don’t do stupid shit with the translation like rendering 魔法少女 as “Puella Magi” in speech; I get that part of being a quality fansubber is getting good raws, but it’s pearls before swine to me compared to the translation quality.

    Wow, the last “official” comment on this was Misora from freaking 3/26, and in the final analysis, turned out to be wrong – they did broadcast them as suggested, and the video quality was quite good. But sadly, all we have to go on are shitty subs from gg, nutbladder, etc.

    yesy was a not-quite-one-hit-wonder. Quality doesn’t matter if you don’t actually release the damn thing. Steve Jobs put it best thirty years ago – “Real artists ship.” You can sit there and perfect your subs as much as you like – without releasing them all of your work on them is essentially self-gratification.

    I would assume the niconico raw is much worse resolution than the regular broadcasts… only really worth it when speedsubbing and the niconico is released first (like with Steins;Gate ep1).

    I had no problem waiting on yesy during the season even though it meant missing out on discussion right after airing. I had no problem waiting extra-long on 11 and 12; I figure I had to wait long enough for them just to air, a bit more won’t matter (and I’m still catching up on this season’s series anyway, it’s not like I have nothing else to watch).

    The problem is it’s now been 2 weeks of trying to avoid spoilers (which I come across in the most unexpected locations), can’t look at new Madoka fanart or anything, etc. If posts 81 and 44 are true, I guess I’d better just go ahead watch Nutbladder’s release (I refuse to watch gg just on principle) and stop worrying about getting spoiled.

    All the raws have been out for weeks, so its ridiculous to claim there isnt a good raw, even when TS raws have been out.

    No more raws are going to be released anyway, because the source of the raw, a TV broadcast, WAS OVER THREE WEEKS AGO. So its either use an existing raw or wait till BDs.

    BDs seems to have so many changes compared to TV broadcast, so it could happen that they’re actually waiting for BD raws.
    Especially ep11, like lulu @ post 83 saying, some parts of the video is actually cut off.
