Probably played it by now, if not then the easiest way to say if it's worth playing is if you passed the first game.
If you did, definitely give ME2 a shot, the story continues and the range of decisions in the first game and how they alter the second is.. staggering. Even some of the tiniest side quests from the first one will affect parts of the second, maybe not in a big way but it's definitely there.
The actual gameplay changes a bit, the combat is improved and made more about skill rather than stats but on the same hand it turns all of the encounters into corridor shooters. The mission system is nice and definitely cinematic but the missions for each character follow the exact same structure, recruiting mission first then a loyalty mission. Many of the RPG elements have been completely removed, there is a leveling system but it's very basic, there's no longer an inventory and all upgrades are handled on your ship, the conversation system has remained intact though.
It's a good game and a great sequel but I would recommend against it unless you've played and enjoyed ME1.
